Published:  14 January, 2019

The French government has awarded Paulo Amorim with the Chevalier dans l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole – a merit bestowed for outstanding contributions to agriculture.

Amorim was awarded the accolade in recognition of the work he has carried out since joining the wine industry in 1981.

The current president of the Portuguese Association of Wines & Spirits (ANCEVE), Amorim was also founder and leader of Viniportugal - the interprofessional organisation that promotes Portuguese wines worldwide.

Amorim was also the founder and president of Group of Seven, as well as director of C. da Silva (Vinhos) and Quinta da Aveleda and executive board member of Vinalda, Global Wines and Christie`s Port Wine Producer & Shipper.

The latest accolade follows Amorim being awarded the Commendation of Grand Officer of the Order of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Merit (Class of Agricultural Merit), for "outstanding services rendered to the country", in 2006.

Previous ‘personalities’ to have been awarded the Chevalier dans l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole since it was launched in 1883 include Louis Pasteur, Pierre Le Roux, Catherine Deneuve and Prince Charles.
