The Wine Society appoints new CEO

Published:  03 September, 2018

The Wine Society has appointed current Clarks chief commercial officer Steve Finlan as its new CEO.

Currently working out his notice period at Clarks, Finlan takes up his new position with The Wine Society in January 2019. He will take over from interim CEO Liz Cerroti, who has held the post since the departure of Robin McMillan.

Finlan’s “fresh perspective” would bring new thinking to The Society, said chairman Sarah Evans.

“Today’s competitive landscape is extremely challenging and fast paced and The Society will benefit from the breadth and depth of his experience, building on The Society’s strengths, its strong heritage and membership base,” she said.

Prior to his role with Clarks, which he took up in 2014, Finlan held senior executive roles at a number of household-name retailers, including Marks & Spencer, and Gap.

In addition, he is an experienced retailer having held leadership roles in sales, operations, and HR, and operational responsibility for IT, Supply chain and Digital.

Dedicated to providing “an outstanding member experience”, Finlan said he was “hugely excited” to be joining The Society.

“The Society has an amazing award-winning range of wines and services. With a great team in place committed to providing an outstanding experience, it is a consistent high performer in its mission to champion the joy of good wine. I’m looking forward to serving both existing and new members, leading The Society into its next phase of development,” he said.
