Bisol puts the spotlight on top tier Prosecco

Leading Italian producer Bisol has announced a portfolio overhaul to enforce its position as the benchmark for Prosecco Superiore di Valdobbiadene DOCG one of the two main DOCGs for Prosecco.

As part of an “identity overhaul”, the family owned company has introduced new wines and a new image which centres on wine-making tradition in Valdobbiadene.

The project comes four years after Bisol’s acquisition by the Lunelli Group in 2014 and is being back by UK distributors, Bibendum.

Its aim, said the company, is to show consumers a step up in quality delivered by the Valdobbiadene region, thus promoting the quality image of the overall category.

“Prosecco keeps growing at a global level, but consumers seem to focus on the category rather than the producer,” Matteo Lunelli CEO of the Lunelli Group and vice president of Bisol said.

“It’s important to highlight the difference between Prosecco and Prosecco Superiore, promoting quality and enhancing the features of this amazing wine, to encourage existing and new Prosecco consumers to experiment and trade up to the next level.”

This echoes the ambitions of other Prosecco producers at this week’s Bellavita show such as Villa Sandi, which also has historic links to Valdobbiadene at the heart of the original Prosecco region, before it was widened significantly in 2009.

Producers with these links are now keen to highlight the difference between the DOC and DOCG appellations, particularly in the UK, which remains the top export market for Prosecco and which accounts for 75% of exports when combined with the US and Germany.

The new-look portfolio will be showcased at the end of this month, and will thereafter be available via the on-trade and independents.
