Red Squirrel grows buying team

Published:  18 June, 2018

London-based wine importer Red Squirrel has expanded its team with a new buyer.

Miranda Fong joins the company next month to help look after Red Squirrel’s global portfolio of producers.

Current buyer Robert Woodhead will remain with the company as head buyer with a particular responsibility for the importer’s wine-on-tap operation, but his time would be “mostly devoted to a new sales manager role”, said founder Nik Darlington.

Fong, previously H2Vin off-trade sales manager, would bring “a wealth of experience, attention to detail and valuable skills” to the team, he added.

“Miranda, who studied in her native Canada prior to achieving a Master of Wine Business degree at the University of Adelaide, will be a brilliant addition to our team,” said Darlington.

After completing her degree, Fong moved to the UK, achieved her Diploma and became assistant general manager at London’s small chain of independent merchants Bottle Apostle before joining H2Vin in 2016.

Fong, who recently sat her second-year exams for the MW qualification, said: “It’s been exciting to watch Red Squirrel develop over the last six years. Their dynamic approach to wine has led to one of the most unique ranges in the UK.”

Founded in 2012, Red Squirrel imports native and alternative wines from Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Austria, Australia, South Africa, Canada and Turkey.
