Wiston Estate signs up Swig Wines as London on-trade distributor

Published:  11 June, 2018

English winemaker Wiston Estate is looking to cash in on booming on-trade sales of domestic fizz with a new distribution deal with Swig Wines.

The South Downs producer’s entire range – including Wiston Estate Cuvee 2013, winner of the English Sparkling Wine Trophy at IWSC 2017 – is now available to the capital’s restaurants and bars through Swig.

Sales of English sparkling wine have surged in double digits in the UK on-trade every year since 2013, according to CGA data. Wiston Estate’s new deal with Swig woukld help maintain that growth, according to the producer.

“Over the years we have loved seeing the close rapport Swig has with their customers and their ability to seek out high quality wines of place,” said Wiston Estate marketing director Kirsty Goring.

Wiston Estate’s range of premium sparkling wines have picked up a number of gongs at international wine awards in recent years. Most recently, its Blanc de Noirs 2010 picked up three trophies at May’s WineGB Awards, including the coveted Supreme Champion award.

The wines are created from a combination of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier grapes grown on 6.5 hectares of south and south east facing chalk soil in West Sussex. The estate has been owned by the Goring family since 1743.

Wiston Estate uses a gravity fed cellar and is the only English wine producer to use a 1973 Coquard basket press, prized by winemakers for its slow, gentle juice extraction. Such artisan techniques and low yields of 15hl per hectare mean Wiston’s wines can command a hefty premium.

Swig Wines is an importer of artisanal wines from around the world and suppliers a roster of private clients and high end restaurants and independent bars.
