WSTA strengthens board with two new appointments

Published:  07 February, 2018

The Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) has added two new members to its board - Tesco’s commercial director, Kari Daniels and The Wine society’s Robin McMillan.

Joining the board with immediate effect, the duo brings a wealth of drinks industry experience with them, with McMillan having spent the past 30 years in the wine trade, and the past six as CEO of The Wine Society.

The most senior retail figure to have joined the WSTA board, Daniels’ career in FMCG manufacturing and retail has spanned 25 years working across several categories, including BWS.

Commenting one her board appointment, Daniels said: “The industry is entering another crucial 12 months – we are operating in a shifting landscape as Britain continues to prepare to leave the EU. The challenges for the wine and spirit industry are significant and highly relevant for UK business. On top of this, consumers are increasingly demanding that businesses take their commitments to responsibility and sustainability seriously.”

It was, she added, an exciting time to join the WSTA board.

The new members would add “further substance and skill” to the WSTA board, said chairman, Dan Jago.

“Kari’s work in retail over the years and her role and remit at Tesco will be a tremendous asset to the board. Equally, Robin’s vast experience in the wine trade, his experience at the head of The Wine Society and his familiarity with the WSTA thanks to his role as chair of our Distance Selling Panel, will mean he adds much to our discussions,” he said.

McMillian, who has chaired the WSTA’s Distance Selling Panel for six years, said: “I look forward to working with my fellow board members and the WSTA team to continue to improve the way the organisation works, providing increasingly good value for members and tackling the issues that matter to its members at a time of rapid change.”
