Boutinot: Senior On-Trade Sales Account Manager (London)

Published:  08 January, 2018

We want you to sell our wines to our On Trade customers.  Of course we do, and we’ve got a really great portfolio of wines for you to sell, but Boutinot is a really different place to work, so you’ll find our sales roles are a little out of the ordinary too.

Reporting to:     Head of London On-Trade

Hours:                   Full Time

Contract:             Permanent

Location:              Must live within M25

So, what’s the job ‘in one’?

Quite simply, your job is to sell wine, and then go back and sell some more wine.  And do that brilliantly by saying and doing the right thing.

What will this involve?

We want you to sell our wines to our On Trade customers.  Of course we do, and we’ve got a really great portfolio of wines for you to sell, but Boutinot is a really different place to work, so you’ll find our sales roles are a little out of the ordinary too.

As you might expect, you’ll be given a territory.  One you can own completely, as if it were your own business.  A territory where you’ll be out and about getting to know it like the back of your hand.  The better you know your patch, the more you’ll get from it: cultivate it like a vineyard, and watch it bear fruit.  Make every year a vintage year.

The way you’ll do this is through planning and through knowledge and understanding.  Not just of our wines and producers – and you’ll be given intense training in these – but most importantly, of your customers.  Because you won’t simply be working on behalf of Boutinot, you’ll be working on your customer’s behalf too.  You’ll build close relationships with every single one, so that you get to know them and their businesses as well as they know themselves.  So when you go to see them, you’ll know what they need, what they didn’t know they needed….and have the solutions that will delight them, every time.

Achievement of performance targets. At Boutinot performance is not just about achieving figures, it is also based on a set of values around which you are expected to behave on a daily basis.

This is an exciting, interesting role – and a very demanding one.  It needs energy, enthusiasm and commitment; you’ll need to live wine and love people. But if you give it everything you’ve got, it will be more rewarding than you could have thought possible.

What kind of person are we looking for?

We’re looking for sales people who are a little different.

You’ll need to be someone who really likes people, and who other people really like.  That’s because you have empathy, intelligence, discipline and a warm personality.  You’ll be both interesting and interested, the kind of person your customers will look forward to seeing, and who they trust.

You’ll be brave enough to make decisions that might have a long-term effect on your figures, rather than always going for the quick win.  You might turn an order away if it’s not right for your customer, or tell them they’ve made the wrong choice of wine.  Of course, you’ll also offer them the right solution.  Because you’ll understand that by building great relationships with your customers and you’ll get the results you need in the end.

Essentially in order to be considered, you’ll need to be have a minimum of 5 years wine sales experience ideally gained in a London sales role selling to casual dining, gastro pubs and bars, and with previous success at winning new business within the drinks industry, ideally in wine. You will possess a good level of wine knowledge ideally WSET Level 3 or above.  If you are working within the hospitality sector and looking to make your first move into sales this particular position isn’t for you.

What you absolutely must have is the interest, enthusiasm and energy to drink up knowledge, to grasp this opportunity with both hands, and make your role into something we can all raise a glass to.

What will we give you in return?

Well money obviously but also the chance to work with a bunch of really talented, passionate people who like you are valued for their skills and are part of a vibrant, growing International business with a great future ahead of it that you will be a vital part of.
