Diageo gives more info

Diageo has announced plans to provide nutritional information and a responsible drinking message across its range of wines, spirits and beers in 180 markets around the world.

More than 10,000 packages will have to be changed during the roll-out, which take place over the next five years. Appropriate resource' has been put behind the project.

Our consumer information policy is another voluntary step for Diageo and is part of our wider commitment to responsible drinking,' said Rob Malcolm, president of marketing, sales and innovation at Diageo. We recognise the importance of letting the consumer make informed choices about what they drink.'

The nutritional information will include values on labels and packaging unless local regulatory requirements demand otherwise'. Within the EU, values will be provided for energy, protein, carbohydrates and fat. The company added: This information will not be provided in a way that implies health or dietary benefits.'

Regarding alcohol serve-size, Diageo said it would support standard serve-size/unit labelling in those markets where there is an agreed definition'.

The responsible drinking reminder - Drink Responsibly' (or a translation) - will appear on all labels, secondary packaging and advertising.

All the information will also be available on Diageo's website and customer care lines.
