Armit Wines releases 2009 vintage of La Rioja Alta’s Gran Reserva 904

Published:  04 December, 2017

Armit Wines has today released the 2009 vintage of La Rioja Alta's Gran Reserva 904.

The wine, a blend of 90% Tempranillo (from over 60 year old vines planted in Briñas, Labastida and Villalba) and 10% Graciano, is described as having great aromatic complexity, with balsamic notes of vanilla, toasted caramel, mint chocolate, tea leaves and cinnamon.

Only produced in exceptional vintages, the wines from 2009 stood out for combining “subtlety, elegance and finesse”, said winemaker, Julio Sáenz, adding when comparing it to the 2007, it was “even more” intense and aromatic and had greater ageing potential.

This, said Sáenz, was due to the “magnificent balance” of components throughout the growing season.

“Winter water reserves enabled the grapes to reach the end of the cycle in a balanced condition despite significant heat and drought in summer, while rain in mid-September slowed down grape ripening, resulting in good alcoholic and phenolic balance, the turning point of the vintage as this was followed by perfect conditions,” he said.

The wine is available to purchase from Armit Winesfrom today at a special price until the end of the month of £180 per six bottles in bond and £370 per six magnums in bond for an anticipated delivery at the end of March 2018.
