Borough partners with Surendran & Bownes to launch non-alcoholic gin

Published:  27 November, 2017

Borough Wines & Beers has joined forces with Surendran & Bownes distillery to develop a 0% abv gin as part of a strategy to align its portfolio with the trend for low and non-alcoholic drinks.

The 0% abv gin, which will form part of the company’s Distillers Development Series, is poised to hit the market in the first part of 2018. It will follow the launch of an alcoholic gin, also produced in partnership with Surendran & Bownes, set to be rolled out across Borough Wines’ nine stores from December.

In addition, Borough Wines will also from next month become the exclusive UK supplier of two non-alcoholic ranges – botanical sodas range Lurvills Delight and Nonsuch Shrubs – a line of no-added sugar lightly sparkling fruit juice blends containing sparkling spring water and cyder vinegar.

Available now, Lurvill’s Delight is priced £1.95, with Nonsuch Shrubs retailing at £3.50 a bottle.

The aim was to create a range of drinks with the same “care and consideration” that Borough gave to selecting the wines and beers it stocked, said marketing director, Corinna Pyke, adding millennials were “crying out” for a better choice of non-alcoholic drinks.

“My main focus has been curating a selection of drinks with low added sugar and, even though they have no alcohol in them, have the complexities of flavour that is found in good quality wine,” she said.

Further non-alcoholic beverages would be added to the portfolio in coming months, Pyke said.

In a bid to promote “mindful drinking” and to support “dry January”, Borough is running a series of tastings throughout December alongside food pairing events.
