LWF reveals spotlight on UK drinks

Published:  01 November, 2017

The London Wine Fair is making moves to champion home-grown and produced drinks with a new Drinks Britannia section.

The new stand-alone section will debut at the 2018 show and dedicated to British-made drinks across wine, beer, cider, spirits and mixers.

It will be the first time a section of the fair has been dedicated exclusively to UK drinks producers.

The fair’s new head, Hannah Tovey, said the growth of the UK wine industry provided much of the impetus behind the new section, and the UK’s global reputation for “producing some of the finest spirits, beers and ciders in the world”.

“We wanted to celebrate and champion this exciting and vibrant industry with its own dedicated area and we are confident it will attract more UK based buyers than ever before as well as tap into overseas markets, particularly those beyond Europe,” she said.

The growing number of UK wineries hit the news this week when accountancy group UHY Hacker Young released figures showing that the number of producers making wine on UK soil jumped from 352 in 2015 to 397 in 2016.

Drinks Britannia will be based on the ground floor of the Grand Hall when the LWF returns to the Olympia from Monday 21 to Wednesday 23 May 2018.
