Broadland Wineries appoints Paul Schaafsma as CEO

Published:  26 September, 2017

Broadland Wineries has appointed former Accolade Wines CEO Paul Schaafsma as its new CEO.

Taking on the role with immediate effect, Schaafsma takes over the day-to-day running of the business, taking over from owner Mark Lansley, who has stepped down to take on the role of part-time chairman.

A proven “international brand builder and organization developer”, Lansley said he was “very excited” to have Schaafsma on board.

“Paul knows how to create consumer pull, and how to add value to retailer-led businesses - I can't wait to see what synergies unfold,” he said.

Referring to Broadland as a “diverse and exciting wine business with significant untapped potential”, Schaafsma said he looked forward to leading, and further developing, the strong management team, and implementing an appropriate multi-channel strategy for its customers.

A brand-led portfolio was likely to feature in Broadland’s plans, he added, with further details to be revealed shortly.

The announcement comes just weeks after New Zealand winery Invivo appointed Schaafsma to its board as an independent non-executive director - a role he will carry on alongside his new position with Broadland.

Schaafsma, who was appointed general manager of the UK, Ireland and Global Partners business in 2012 before becoming CEO of Accolade wines in 2015, steered the company through major restructuring after its acquisition by private equity firm Champ in 2011.

Before joining the Australian wine giant, he was the general manager UK and Europe of rival company Australian Vintage UK for eight years, after seven years running the domestic Australian business.
