Treasury team walk Thames Path Challenge in honour of MD

Published:  15 September, 2017

Thirty members of the Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) team took on the Thames Path Challenge on Saturday (9 September).

The fundraising event was in memory of their former managing director Dan Townsend, who passed away suddenly in March.

The team raised money for two charities: drinks industry charity The Benevolent, of which Townsend was chairman in 2015 and 2016 and The British Heart Foundation.

Members of the team walked and ran a variety of distances, (28km, 50km or 100km) and in total covered a combined total of 1,028 km.

The team were following in the footsteps of Townsend’s Benevolent 2015 Chairman’s Challenge, when he rallied the industry to take part in the event and raise money.

He walked the 50km, with his son Harry and daughter Rose, inspiring the industry to raise a total of more than £25,000.

Tom King, managing director Europe at TWE, said: “It was a real honour to walk in Dan’s footsteps on Saturday as we remembered his legacy and raised funds for these great charities. It was a great but bittersweet day, bringing the team together the team to honour a man who meant so much to us all. Dan was an inspiring leader, a wonderful colleague and friend to so many of us – and very importantly a tireless fundraiser for great causes; not least the Benevolent.”

Donations are still being accepted, with the total at more than £6,000 and rising.
