WineTraining founder Raul Diaz embarks on online venture

Published:  16 August, 2017

WineTraining founder Raul Diaz has embarked on his latest venture - an online ‘lifestyle’ wine subscription business.

Savage Vines, poised to go live at the end of this month with the first wines set for delivery 29th September, will give wine lovers the opportunity to have a box of three wines delivery to their doorstep every month, with each wine sourced from family-owned and run wineries that employ sustainable business pratices as part of their winemaking technique, at a £42 monthly fee.

The privately-financed business would set itself apart from existing online wine subscription businesses by offering members “not just wines but a lifestyle”, said Diaz.

“Members can access our spotify music channel – SavageFM; exclusive restaurant deals with some of London’s hippest establishments and attractive rates on accommodation with partner wineries,” he said.

In addition, subscribers would be able to keep up to date “on all things worth knowing” across the country and abroad via the company’s weekly read – The Savage Times.

“People are looking for a full service wine house where they can get interesting wines and feel physically connected to the growers, restauranteurs and other wine drinkers,” said Diaz, adding Savage Vines had received an “extremely” positive response so far with “lots of followers within only a few weeks”.

The aim was to have 20,000 members by the end of the company’s first year, he said.

Savage Vines, which Diaz set up in partnership with accountant and ‘wine lover’ Kyle Paskett, would be looking to raise capital in Q1 next year to facilitate growth plans, he added.

The new venture follows Diaz launching WineTraining LTD in the first half of 2015.

Later that year he partnered with industry veteran John Davey to launch Hospitality Workshops - a service and wine training programme for the on-trade.
