Happy families -PHI Syrah Grenache

Published:  13 April, 2012

Keeping it in the family is De Bortoli and Shelmerdine with the launch of Rhône blend, PHI Syrah Grenache 2010, Heathcote, (rrp £30.99).

The two-family joint venture aims to produce a range of premium single vineyard wines, from grapes grown on the Shelmerdine owned vineyards in the upper Yarra and Heathcote regions of Victoria with wines made by De Bortoli's, Steve Webber. It joins the range of Chardonnay; Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Noir. A nose of dark fruits, damson, blackcurrant and spice, makes for a quality wine with a gentle, elegant palate of berry fruits, a hint of licorice, black pepper and herbal notes leading on to a smooth finish. Also in the loop is the DB Family Selection Rose 2011 (rrp £6.98), which launches early May and is being aimed at multiple retailers. It's a colourful addition to the current range of Chardonnay & Cabernet Merlot with raspberry and soft fruit flavours combined with a creamy finish and good acidity.
