Via Ventisquero expands winemaking team

Published:  18 January, 2007

Via Ventisquero has expanded its winemaking team with the addition of Horacio Fuentes, who brings with him experience of winemaking in California and Argentina, as well as his native Chile.

Horacio Fuentes has been appointed as winemaker and joins them from Via Caliterra, where he managed a 30-strong team. Prior to that he gained experience at Santa Esther Winery in the Bio Valley, Tapiz Winery in Mendoza, La Crema in California's Russian River Valley and the Morand Winery in the Maipo Valley. As well as winemaking responsibilities his role will also have a marketing dimension, giving technical support to the export department.

Amrico Hernndez Peragallo, Ventisquero's Export Manager for the UK and Ireland, comments: "Our success on both the home and export markets, coupled with the commitment to quality, necessitated the expansion of our winemaking team. Horacio is a valued addition, and brings with him a wealth of experience from different countries and regions of Chile. I am sure he will be an integral part of our continuing expansion."

In just nine years, Via Ventisquero has cultivated prime vineyard sites throughout Chile's most recognised grape growing regions: the coastal Maipo, Rapel, Casablanca and Apalta Valleys, together with Peralillo and Lolol in Colchagua.

These holdings allow Via Ventisquero to take full advantage of a wealth of different terroirs and have contributed to the company's current position as one of the fourth largest Chilean wine suppliers to the UK. Via Ventisquero and UK agent PLB are also joint owners of Chileno, which was launched in 2002.
