Liberty for Berkmann's Bewes

Published:  23 July, 2008

Leading UK agency house Liberty Wines has appointed two high-profile members of the wine trade to its team - Andrew Bewes and Gary Wyatt.

Bewes was formerly sales and marketing director at Berkmann Wine Cellars and joins the company as commercial director, while Wyatt was formerly finance director of Seagram UK and takes up the same job at Liberty.

David Gleave MW, managing director and founder of Liberty Wines, told Harpers: We have seen some fantastic growth in the past few years and now have a sales team of 12 people. I was really looking for someone to oversee them and manage further growth. I put an ad in Harpers and got 114 responses, of which Andrew was the stand-out applicant.'

Gleave added: Gary's experience will ensure that our administrative side provides the necessary support for sales and marketing.'

Bewes told Harpers: I have been at Berkmann for 12 dramatic years, during which we experienced enormous growth. Liberty was one of the few companies I would have jumped ship for, because in a world of increasing consolidation and homogenisation, it has bucked the trend.'
