English wine on the rise: Earlier this month, English wine was listed on fine wine trading platform Liv-ex and English wine shows no signs of slowing down. A thirst for English fizz has driven an 80% rise in sales of sparkling in the UK over the last five years. 

Meanwhile, sales of English wine were up 74% in the second quarter of the year at M&S and the category is set to go global, with the largest shipment of English wine heading for the USA later this month.

The world is getting a taste for English sparkles, but Guy Woodward said UK restaurants need to get behind this homegrown industry.
 

Listings and partnerships: Drinks companies were spreading the reach of their offering by announcing some strategic partnerships and listings this week, including a historic port house, a new gin brand and an alcohol-free wine.
