Premium Port brand, Kopke, has launched its 1996 Colheita Port at Marks & Spencer online.

Part of the Sogevinus group, this is the first time this brand will be available at a major national retailer in the UK.

The Colheita oak-aged Port will be available at £30 RRP for a single bottle or can be purchased as a case of six.

Founded in 1638, Kopke is the world's oldest Port wine house according to the company.

Kopke is part of Port specialists Sogevinus, which also own premium Port brands Cálem, Barros and Burmester, and are the leading company in the production of Colheita oak- Tawny aged Ports.

After two decades in barrel, the Kopke Colheita 1996 Port is now ready to be drunk, ideally within the following year.

Tania Branco Oliveira, communications director for Sogevinus, said: "Kopke is the jewel in crown for Sogevinus and we have been working actively to raise awareness of this brand in the UK.

"We hold the largest volume of Colheita Ports in the world, a style with great potential for the ready to drink category, which is now grabbing the attention of national retailers. We are proud to see this historic Portuguese brand available at M&S, a much loved British retailer."

M&S Port Buyer, Dror Nativ, added: "We are really excited to be able to offer customers this Colheita. Kopke are specialists in vintage Tawnies and we were impressed by the breadth of vintages they had to offer and the styles which are both rich and nuanced at the same time. The 1996 stood out in particular for its delicious caramel and dried fruit flavours."
