Isle of Arran releases 18 Year Old Single Malt as distillery turns 21

Published:  07 March, 2016

Isle of Arran Distillers is to release an 18 Year Old Single Malt as it celebrates its 21st anniversary this year.

A limited edition run of 9,000 bottles of the 18 Year Old sold out quickly on release last year.

The whisky is bottled at 46% abv and is distilled without chill-filtration or artificial colour.

James MacTaggart, master distiller at the Isle of Arran Distillery, said: "This is a very special bottling for us. As the most mature expression of the Arran Malt it represents the very best of the distillery in this, our 21st year.

"As the only distillery on the island, we stand for its centuries of whisky-making tradition. The 18 Year Old is a worthy reflection of this heritage with all the depth of aroma and flavour for which Arran malts have become known around the world."

The whisky is reported to have citrus and orchard fruit flavours combined with milk brioche and dark chocolate.

Isle of Arran Distillers, which remains independently owned, posted record results in 2014, with turnover up 21% to £5.5 million and profits up up 51% to £831,362.

Sales in the UK rose 30% during the year, while UK sales of all Scotch fell 5%, according to figures from the Scottish Whisky Association.

The distillery's results include £795,000 from its award-winning visitor centre, which was named Best Distillery Visitor Experience by the Scottish Field Whisky Challenge in 2015 for the second year running.

The distillery was opened in 1995 and currently exports to 45 countries worldwide.

The Isle of Arran 18 Year Old is available at specialist whisky retailers and from www.arranwhisky.com at an rrp of £74.99.
