The UK is the first international market to feature the 2008 "Assemblage" Champagne from Reims-based Champagne house Bruno Paillard.

The ultra-low-dosage cuvée has been ageing in the Paillard cellars for seven years, including at least 12 months rest post-disgorgement.

Bruno Paillard customarily releases its vintages later than other Champagne houses.

The 2008 vintage is a blend of first-pressing grapes from 10 different terroirs across the Champagne region and comprises 42% Chardonnay, 42% Pinot Noir and 16% Meunier.

The 2008 was an excellent year, with higher than average temperatures through the growing season but relatively little sunshine, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and preserve a balanced acidity.

The three-week harvest was held in near-perfect conditions with dry, warm days and cool nights.

Since its launch in 1981, Champagne Bruno Paillard has always commissioned a new artist to design its labels each year.

For the 2008 vintage the house has chosen Paris-based Korean artist Bang Hai Ja, whose elemental paintings are a fusion of Eastern and Western techniques.

Champagne Bruno Paillard "Assemblage" 2008 is available to both the off- and on-trade through Bibendum PLB.

It has a recommended retail price of £65.

As is traditional at Bruno Paillard, the Champagne's disgorgement date is also printed on the back label.
