Washington State's Charles Smith winery launches Italian range

Published:  10 February, 2016

Washington State's Charles Smith Wines is marking its tenth anniversary with the launch of a new range of Italian-varietal wines.

The Casa Smith range will be four-strong at launch in March.

It includes a Sangiovese and a Primitivo, both from 2014, and two Barbera expressions, one from 2014 and one from 2012.

Charles Smith said: "Casa Smith shatters the expectation that great Italian wine can only be found in Italy.

"We're doing it in Washington using the finest Italian varietals, but in our own way - small lot, single vineyard, hand-picked and foot stomped.

"I am proud to share Casa Smith with my winemaking Italian friends and with the rest of the world - that's how good it is."

Also new from Charles Smith this year will be a 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon in the winery's Wines of Substance range, which is also expected to reach the market in March.

Charles Smith Wines is the largest independent winery in Washington State, and the third largest overall.

It now has sixteen vineyards across the south-eastern corner of the state, and sells over 750,000 cases a year.

Charles Smith was named Wine Enthusiast's 2014 Winemaker of the Year.

His wines are currently exported to 20 countries worldwide and are distributed in the UK by Bibendum PLB.
