On-trade distributor Bibendum has partnered with The View from The Shard to offer consumers an innovative tasting experience.

Bibendum hopes the Sky High Wine event, which took place last week on level 69 of the London landmark building, will be the first in a series.

Daytime visitors to The View were able to purchase a £10 tasting card which enabled them to taste wines from Bibendum's South American wine producers.

Wineries involved included major players including Argentina's Catena and Argento as well as emerging market wineries, such as Garzon from Uruguay and Miolo from Brazil.

Representatives from the wineries were on hand in the evening to talk to ticket holders about their wines.

Teresa Cedenilla, brand ambassador Blends Wine Estates, said: "Having the opportunity to showcase our high altitude wines from Argentina (Bodega Argento) and Uruguay (Bodega Garzón) high in the sky in London's tallest building was fantastic.

"Altitude is central to providing our wines with freshness and integration between the terroir and the varietals. The event was well attended and we met some really enthusiastic customers who enjoyed learning about our wines."

Mark Riley, sales director at Bibendum, said: "We've long talked about how to make wine tastings more fun and what better way to do this than to throw in the best view in London and top-notch catering?

"We very much hope that the event is the first in a string of informal and fun tasting events where visitors get the chance to learn a bit about what they are drinking and hopefully come back for more."
