D&D expands into winemaking with its own range of wines

Published:  16 October, 2015

The D&D London restaurant group is launching its own range of wines to offer its customers.

The range is currently limited to two: a red named Les Gamins and a white named Les Trois Bises. Both have been developed with Châteauneuf-du-Pape winery Château la Nerthe.

The wines will be available to customers both in D&D's restaurants and through its online wine shop from October 21.

They each retail at £35 per bottle.

Les Gamins, is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.

The white blends Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier.

Six sommeliers from D&D went to France's Rhône Valley in January to work on the wines with Château la Nerthe's head winemaker Christian Voeux.

The sommeliers included Ben Meutter from Butlers Wharf Chop House, Oliver Marie from Coq d'Argent and Benoit Allauzen of South Place Hotel.

"We were trying to create a blend which would work in all of our restaurants - no easy task," said Meutter. "Wines that would taste great young and be super approachable."

Des Gunewardena, co-founder and chief executive of D&D London said: "Wine is a very important part of D&D and we've had the ambition for a while to create our own wines exclusively for our customers."

D&D London currently runs 34 restaurants and has an annual turnover of over £100 million.

November will see the opening of D&D London's latest venture, The German Gymnasium in King's Cross.
