Schreil to head Absolut production as Asplund steps down after more than three decades

Published:  25 June, 2015

For the first time in 33 years there's to be a change in the person in charge of making Absolut vodka.

Krister Asplund has overseen production of all global supplies at Åhus in Sweden since 1982, but on July 1 he will be succeeded by Anna Schreil, who is currently Absolut's director of product development, realisation and R&D.

Since Asplund first took on the role the number of people involved in making the brand has risen from 60 to 300 and the vodka had been bought by Pernod Ricard.

Schreil, whose new job title is vice president operations, said: "To take on the responsibility for Absolut is an honour

"I have great respect for Krister's work and it feels both rewarding and exciting to take over.

"Krister has managed to increase production without doing it at the expense of either the employees or the environment.

"These are responsibilities that are close to my heart and it is a job that I want to continue."

Asplund will focus on his role as master distiller for Absolut Elyx.

"To leave my job, the best job in the world, was not an easy decision," he said.

"In Åhus, we have employees with a great sense of commitment and extensive knowledge.

"Over the years I have worked together with Anna, she has shown that she has the skills and the deep understanding for the employees, the community, our partners and the brand.

"I know that Anna is the right person to lead the team."
