Codorníu aims to make mark in top end with luxury Cava

Published:  18 June, 2015

Cava producer Codorníu is aiming to raise its profile in the top-end on-trade with the introduction of a luxury mark to the UK.

Anna Blanc de Blancs has already been launched in other major cities such as New York and Barcelona and, like venues in those cities, selected upmarket bars and restaurant will be supported by branded terraces.

The wine is named after Anna de Codorniu, a 17th century heiress to the Cava estate. It is a premium cava made primarily from Chardonnay with a small blending in of the Spanish sparkling wine's three traditional varieties, Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Parellada.

The Cava is classified as reserva after being aged for 15 months,

Its striking white bottle and gold details are designed to make it "modern and feminine", according to the company, and position it as a top-end product.

Claire Sheppard, UK national on-trade controller, said: "It has been extremely popular in Spain since it was launched last year.

"Its refreshing style is perfect for al fresco dining and the eye-catching bottle has real stand-out which we hope will attract style conscious customers."

Anna Blanc de Blancs is available through Matthew Clark.
