Harveys woos bartenders with cocktail push for sherry range

Published:  16 June, 2015

Harveys is asking bartenders to help make sherry more exciting in a new cocktail competition.

Finalists in the Harveys Sherry Remix will visit the home of the brand in Jerez where they'll receive a guided tour of the vineyards and bodegas from brand ambassador Maria Eugenia Herrera, before competing for a cash prize.

To enter, bartenders must create a contemporary sherry cocktail that "encourages today's UK consumer to discover this rich fortified wine in an exciting, new way".

Entrants will be required to supply an image as well as their inspiration for the cocktail and why they feel consumers would want to order it.

Cocktails must include a minimum of 50ml measure of Harveys and can include other fortified wines and spirits, but with Harveys as the main ingredient.

The drinks will be judged by a panel, led by Amanda Humphrey, manager of supplier Maxxium's Mixxit on-trade training service. Three finalists will be chosen to visit Jerez after additional bar visits.

Janice McIntosh, Maxxium UK's marketing controller for Harveys, says: "This competition is engaging bartenders with sherry and inspiring them to put it on their drinks lists. This is an exciting time for sherry and Harveys is leading the way to further develop the category in the on-trade."
