Full recall for shattering Wine Society Prosecco

Published:  15 June, 2015

The Wine Society has recalled all remaining bottles of its house Prosecco after more bottles spontaneously shattered in members' wine racks.

Three batches of the Prosecco were recalled in May but after the latest shattering episodes all remaining bottles of Prosecco Brut I Duecento have been called in.

In a letter to customers, quality control manager Mark Buckenham said: "Whilst the incidence of shattering bottles is limited, as a precaution we have taken the decision to recall all remaining bottles of this wine."

They are asked to contact the Wine Society rather than attempt disposing of bottles themselves.

It advises customers who have bottles to wrap them in a cloth, such as an old towel, and place them in a plastic bag and carton to await collection.

Buckenham said the Society is committed to "the highest standards of product quality".

He added: "We are taking all necessary measures to establish the cause of this incident in close collaboration with our supplier".
