Wine body rules out export group for Western Australia

Published:  12 June, 2015

The Australian Grape & Wine Authority has distanced itself from reports there were plans to open an export development office for Western Australian wines.

Australian press reports suggested that the state government was engaged in talks with the wine industry to set up the office in Perth in partnership with AGWA and Wines of Western Australia.

AGWA chief executive officer Andreas Clark told Harpers: "The proposal for the establishment of an export development office for Western Australia was put forward as part of Wines of Western Australia's submission during the consultation phase in the development of AGWA's five-year strategic plan.

"We thank everyone in Australia's grape and wine community who contributed to the development of our five-year plan but there are currently no plans to establish an AGWA office in WA."

The speculation came just days after the state of Victoria embarked on a big export drive by shipping 150 international buyers to a wine fair and winery visits.
