Italian restaurant Carluccio's launches online wine shop

Published:  29 April, 2015

Italian restaurant chain Carluccio has launched an online wine shop as part of a revamp of its website which goes live today.

The new e-commerce site is part of a wider digital strategy for the business, which it said represented an opportunity to refresh their brand positioning and "reclaim its place as the original Italian restaurant on the UK high street".

It will offer 26 Italian wine, spirits and liqueurs, which are currently available in its stores, with wine prices ranging from £8.95 to £24.

The restaurant says it is working closely with smaller vineyards and co-operatives across Italy to offer a range of classic and more unusual grape varieties. The range include a selection of Planet wines, including Ceresuolo Di Vittori, a Chianti Classico from Fonterutoli, a Barolo from Fontanafredda, Montepulciano D'abruzzo from Jorio and a Pinot Grigio from Puiattino. The Italian aperitifs and spirits, include Aperol, Grappa, Limoncello, Strega and Frangelico.

Carluccio's wine buyer Mike Stocks, said the launch was an extension of the existing tried and tested offering.

"We work directly with our local wine producers all over Italy. For 15 years we have visited their vineyards and got to know their teams - and often their families. Together, we hand-pick the best wines for our deli shop and restaurants that will bring out the very best in our food," he said.

The online shop will also stock Italian food, including oils and vinegars, anti-pasti and Italian breads, as well as offering gift boxes and hampers.

The site was built by digital specialist Delete, who said the intention was to reposition Carluccio's in the "digital' high street and present an emotive and compelling expression of their brand to both new and established customer."
