Berry Bros & Rudd has unearthed another rare single cask it is releasing to become the third editon in its Extradordinary Cask Collection series.

Initially only avaialble in duty free at Singapore airport the release will be available to collectors worldwide from the beginning of March.

Once again Ronnie Cox, brands heritage director for Glenrothes, has "assessed and identified a small reserve of casks deemed worthy of being included in The Glenrothes Extraordinary Cask Collection".

He said:  "This cask follows our initial Extraordinary releases: a Single Cask from 1970 and a Single Cask from 1969, both of which have all sold out. The latest bottling, a venerable cask from 1968, in keeping with The Glenrothes' philosophy to bottle at peak maturity, is now ready to be unveiled."

The 1968 release has been bottled from a cask #13507 - a second-fill hogshead cask which was filled on November 19, 1968. It has been able to produce 145 bottles with a 41.9% abv.

Glenrothes describes its taste like "rose petals and face cream, tinned peaches, apricots in syrup, mirabelles in honey. Beeswax polish and candles". It promises a "text-book Glenrothes" with "creamy texture, exemplary integration; mascarpone with orange blossom, very lively with white pepper and Turkish delight."

All of which will cost £5,500 a bottle and upwards per bottle.

Each crystal decanter has been individually created by a master craftsman at Atlantis Crystal in Alcobaca, Portugal. It also carries a plaque made of polished brass with the year of distillation and the bottle number to ensure its uniqueness and authenticity. The brass has been supplied by Charles Stott, of the Edinburgh-based Scottish Silversmiths. The head of the stopper comes from the wood of the very cask #13507 in which the whisky matured.
