Glasgow's first standalone whisky and gin distillery in over a 100 years has acquired 30-year-old rare aged single malt Speyside casks which it is to turn in to its first official whisky release.

Glasgow's first standalone whisky and gin distillery in over a 100 years has acquired 30-year-old rare aged single malt Speyside casks which it is to turn in to its first official whisky release.

The Glasgow Distillery Company opened its doors in 2013 and has already brought its first gin to market, the Makar Glasgow Gin. But this new whisky release, called Prometheus, has come about after a chance meeting between the distillery's chief exectuive, Liam Hughes, and owners of these rare 30-year-old single malt Speyside casks.

The casks had been sittling quietly maturing away and will now be turned in to this special release.

Hughes said: "This is a wonderful addition to our business. This is the kind of product we aspire to produce from our own stills in the years to come and it sets a very high benchmark for our own distillers. Aged single malts are becoming more and more difficult to come by and we are very honoured to be entrusted with finally bringing this special single malt Scotch whisky to the marketplace."

The Glasgow Distillery Company has yet to start producing its own single malt whisky but hopes to bring one to market shortly. The distillery was inspired by its original namesake which was operational between 1770 and early 20th Century in Dundashill, Glasgow. During this time, the distillery became one of the largest licensed distilling facilities in Scotland with 12 stills producing both peated and unpeated single malts
