IWSC OPENS FOR 2005

Published:  23 July, 2008

The International Wine & Spirit Competition has opened its doors for entries to the 2005 competition, with new trophies, new sponsors and an overhauled marking system lined up for its 36th year. Chief among the new trophies is the Fruit Spirits (distilled) trophy, while the highest-profile new sponsor is Anglo Overseas, which will be backing both the New Zealand Wine Producer and the Best French Wine Producer trophies. The marking system, meanwhile, has three major changes. First, awards will now be given for all products reaching the required score, meaning that if there are three gold-medal-scoring products in the same flight, each will receive a gold medal. Second, the top-scoring product in each class will receive Best in Class', and all Best in Class' products will go forward to the Trophy tasting. Third, the mark to receive a bronze medal will be raised to 75. The 2005 competition will also be the first to make use of new tailor-made premises, including a larger cellar space and three dedicated tasting rooms.
