Online wine retailer Virgin Wines is looking to "own" the wine gifts market with its new gifting service which includes options from £20 to £150.

"Just offering a shiny gift-box on a shop shelf isn't enough these days", the group says - its new Gifts by Virgin Wines will offer Champagne, wine and spirits, that can be sent with free wrapping and luxury packaging, a free message and free next day delivery - even on Saturdays.

Prices start at £19.99 for a Spanish Gran Reserva red wine in a wooden gift box, rising to £149 for the ultimate celebration case, featuring 12 specially selected wines, two of which are Champagnes. Gift vouchers are also available in denominations of £50, £75 and £100.

The personalised gift service also offers customers the opportunity to personalise labels on selected flagship wines and fizzes with names, dates, occasions and messages.

Andy Potts, general manager of Gifts by Virgin Wines, said: "If you want to send a bouquet of flowers, you naturally think of Interflora. If you want to send a top quality wine or Champagne with a gift message, there is no one who really owns that space at the moment.

"Those who give gifts more often than not want to understandably go the extra mile for the recipient, and as a result consumers expect businesses to go the extra mile too. The high street largely offers big brands stacked high with similar product offerings differentiated mainly by price-point alone, whereas consumers who want to give an extra wow can go online to find something a little more special and unique, with the added bonus of it being delivered the following day and looking fantastic. This is where we see that there's a huge opportunity for us to provide a great gift service."

Virgin Wines sells over 600,000 cases of wine to 150,000 customers around the UK.
