Accolade Wines switches its European division from the UK to Poland

Accolade Wines is to run its European affairs from a new dedicated office in Warsaw, Poland rather than manage the operation from its UK headquarters.

Accolade Wines is to run its European affairs from a new dedicated office in Warsaw, Poland rather than manage the operation from its UK headquarters.

The move is to help Accolade "increase its focus on central and eastern European wine markets".

Ted Popov, Accolade's general manager for EMEASA (Continental Europe, Middle East, Africa and South America), will continue to head up the division from its new Polish base. He said of the move: "Just under two years ago we separated the European group from our UK and Ireland business as we recognised the growth potential within continental European markets as well as some differences in the route-to-market.

"Our move to Poland is the next stage in our business' evolution. Warsaw is ideally placed both in terms of geographic location, allowing us to move closer to the emerging wine markets of Eastern Europe, as well as its importance as a developing economic hub."

Great opportunities to build growth in central and eastern Europe, said Popov

Popov claimed there are still "tremendous growth opportunities within continental Europe for Accolade's range of New World wines.

He explained: "Accolade's strength in its brand portfolio has been bolstered by the acquisitions in 2012 of Californian brands Geyser Peak and Atlas Peak from the Sonoma region and earlier this year the acquisition of New Zealand's Mud House and Waipara Hills. This puts us in a position to offer brands across the range - from entry level to premium - with varietals from key regions in each country."

He believed Accolade have the range and diversity of wines to attract new customers across central and Eastern Europe.
