Cornish winery, Knightor, is releasing a new lower alcohol wine to its portfolio which is inspired by Italy's Moscato D'Asti or Germany's Kabinett and Spätlese styles in the Mosel.

The wine, Mena Wweg, only has an alcohol level of 7.5% and is derived by the Cornish translation for the grape Schönburger, which means pretty, sweet hill.  It is seen as ideal for either an apéritif, to cleanse the palate during a meal and be suitable to match with Asian an ethnic food.

Adrian Derx, comments on the new wine 'Mena Hweg': "It's always exciting to create something new and original and Mena Hweg is, we believe, unique among English wines.  It will catch consumers' attention on the wine shelves and in the wine lists.  We're looking forward to receiving feedback from all."

Adrian Derx, owner of Knightor , which first planted vines in Cornwall in 2006, said: "It's always exciting to create something new and original and Mena Hweg is, we believe, unique among English wines.  It will catch consumers' attention on wine shelves and wine lists."

It is the latest addition to a range that also includes 2013 vintages for its Madeleine Angevine, Trevannion, Bacchus, Pinot Gris and sparkling Brut NV.

Derx said of the 2013 wines: "2013 was a good year for English wine producers.  The weather was particularly kind to the Madeleine Angevine crop which, along with its usual array of citrus and floral flavours, this year takes on a slightly richer and more tropical note too.  We have been able to produce more of the Trevannion, which is very highly regarded by some of the county's leading sommeliers."

Both Madeleine Angevine and Knightor Brut NV have recently been listed by Spirited Wines' which is introducing English wine to its 26 stores for the first time.

Mark Connolly, range manager at Spirited Wines, explained : "I have long wanted to support English vineyards and to celebrate the great wines that are increasingly available, and for me Knightor represents the smaller wineries that are starting to make waves. They are pushing the boundaries of what English wine can be with their fruity, exuberant and charming wines."

The RRP for Mena Hweg is £13.50.
