Wine Australia ramps up Nordic focus

Published:  21 August, 2014

Wine Australia is targeting the Nordic markets by bringing a roadshow to Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki next month.

The generic body says each city's event will showcase more than 160 wines from across Australia.

Previously the event has taken place only in Sweden, but growing demand has led Wine Australia to expand the tasting to Norway and Finland.

Each city will feature a free-pour tasting for monopoly buyers who will have access to a number of visiting winemakers and agents. A number of producers are seeking distribution in the Nordic markets. An evening event will grant 100 wine enthusiasts insights into Australian wine.

Wine Australia will also host a trade masterclass in each city on Shiraz and Chardonnay hosted by Mike Brown of Gemtree Wines (Stockholm), Mac Forbes of Mac Forbes Wines (Oslo) and Bill Crappsley of Plan B! Wines (Helsinki).

Australian wine is currently the fifth largest supplier in Sweden, Norway and Finland and has seen consistent growth during the past five years, with 3% growth per year in the past five years  in import volumes to Sweden.

European events manager Camilla Coste said the tastings demonstrate Wine Australia's commitment to the Nordic markets. "Registration for these events has been overwhelmingly positive with record sign-ups proving just how excited our wineries are about the Nordic markets," she said.
