WINE RELIEF EYES 2 MILLION MARK

Published:  23 July, 2008

Wine Relief, the vinous arm of the Comic Relief charity, is looking to break the 2 million mark as it begins its latest fundraising appeal in time for Red Nose Day on 11 March 2005. The initiative, which has raised 1.2 million in the three Red Nose Day appeals since its first appearance in 1999, will once again be enlisting the help of the trade to meet the ambitious target. According to a spokesperson for the appeal, virtually all the major multiples and brand owners have agreed to work together to make a donation of 10% to Comic Relief from the sale of selected wines. On the last Red Nose Day, 780,000 promotional bottles were sold. Broadcaster and wine lover Philip Schofield will front the campaign. I very much hope that we will see lots of people in the trade doing their own fundraising thing for Red Nose Day as well as the much more substantial initiatives being put in place already,' added Jancis Robinson MW, who first developed the idea for Wine Relief with her husband Nick Lander. All money raised from Wine Relief will go directly to Comic Relief. Retailers wishing to take part should contact Sian Goddard at Comic Relief on 020 7820 5534.
