The UK drinks trade will get the chance to taste potentially award winning and champion sakes from the 2014 International Wine Challenge at a special tasting to be held at the Embassy  of Japan on July 17.

The IWC has linked up with the Sake Samurai Association to put on this specialist tasting that will feature sakes from 13 different brewers that are up awards at the IWC dinner that takes place the night before.

The Challenge received a record breaking 725 sake entries for this year's competition. Seven of the 725 entries were awarded trophies as the best of their best in their respective categories, and the overall winner?the 2014 Champion Sake?will be announced at the IWC Awards Dinner.

2014 also saw two new sake categories introduced. One for ordinary sake (known as futsushu in Japanese) and sparkling sake.

Those attending the IWC sake tasting will get the chance to taste the finalists for themselves, but also get the chance to talk directly with the brewers who will be on hand to explain how the sakes are made. Brewers taking part include Suiou, Gassan, Toko, Hourai, Kitaya, Isojiman, Fukukomachi, Urakasumi and Ichishima amongst others.
