CANADA LOOKS FORWARD TO 2005

Published:  23 July, 2008

Next year is going to be an important year for Canada, according to Donald Ziraldo, president and co-founder of Iniskillin, the Canadian Icewine, and Darryll Puddy, international market manager, UK and Eire for Vincor, Iniskillin's owner. Ziraldo was in London to attend the International Wine Challenge and to publicise an on-trade promotion through distributors Hallgarten, whereby case purchases of Inniskillin are accompanied by the appropriate Riedel glasses to encourage an Icewine-by-the-glass programme in upmarket restaurants. Puddy told Harpers that 2005 is going to be an important year for Canada'. Vincor has had its Hogue Cellars Washington State wines listed by Asda and he is talking to two of the major multiple retailers about listing Jackson Triggs wines from Okanagan, British Columbia. Vincor recently completed the purchase of Western Wines, one of the UK's leading wine producer/supplier (Harpers, 13 August). Asked whether distribution of Inniskillin would be switching to Western, both Ziraldo and Puddy said it would remain with on-trade specialist Hallgarten for the foreseeable future.
