Marks & Spencer's stores across the UK will now offer Abelha Organic Silver Cachaça, a key ingredient in Brazil's national drink the Caipirinha, as well as rolling out four new Brazilian wine this month just ahead of the World Cup.

The retailer is hoping to draw more customer footfall by offering a wider selection of wine and cocktail ingredients in an effort to capitalise on all things Brazilian at the start of summer.

Emma Dawson, wine & spirits buyer for Marks & Spencer said: "At M&S we are seeing the cocktail trend grow significantly, as customers experiment more and more at home. With Caipirinha being a regular feature on bar lists it's important for us to be able to offer customers a great cachaça. We are also looking at Brazil in a wider context, and are launching four new wines from Brazil this month, so it seemed a natural fit to introduce cachaça at the same time."

Cachaça is a spirit distilled from sugarcane made in Brazil, and a key ingredient in the country's flagship cocktail.

Wines of Brasil is gaining ground in the UK with several different retailers offering Brazilian wine, with 15 producers out of the 40 that participate in the generic body's export programme now having UK distribution.

Following recent buyers trips to Brazil, Waitrose is set to take on five wines and Tesco is also thought to be interested.
