IT'S A LORRA LORRA LAUGHS AT THE LAUNCH OF SIR CLIFF'S NEW WINERY
Veteran pop star and TV personality Cilla Black joined the celebrations last Saturday to launch Sir Cliff Richard's new winery Adega do Cantor' (the cellar of the singer) at Quinta do Miradouro, near the Portuguese town of Albufeira in The Algarve. The 150 guests, who included ViniPortugal president Vasco d'Avillez, the mayor of Albufeira and Sir Cliff's friends, enjoyed a traditional pig roast washed down with the newly released 2003 vintage of Vida Nova. The new winery is a joint venture between Sir Cliff, his neighbours Nigel and Lesley Birch (owners of Quinta do Miradouro) and their son Max Birch, who looks after the day-to-day running of Adega do Cantor. Head winemaker David Baverstock, of Esparo winery in the Alentejo, makes the Vida Nova range from grapes grown in Sir Cliff's vineyards at Quinta do Moinho and in the Birchs' vineyards at Quinta do Miradouro.
