Two Good, 2 Bad for 2013, 2 Hopes and Fears for 2014: Olivier Bourdet-Pees, Plaimont Producteurs

Published:  30 December, 2013

Today's 2 Good, 2 Bad for 2013 and 2 Hopes and Fears for 2014 come from Olivier Bourdet-Pees, director general of Plaimont Producteurs.

2013

Good

1 The UK has remained one of the key markets in Europe for Plaimont and the Harpers France Summit was a highlight for us, with interesting conferences and contacts to make. It is definitely a sign that French wines are gaining a renewed interest in this market.

Bad

1 The LIWF needs to remain a key meeting point between producers and the trade and we hope that with its move back to Olympia this will help it reinvent itself and come back to its core values.

2 The tax rises and the exchange rate is always a challenge...

2014

Hopes

1 One of the biggest challenges for us next year is the new presentation of our European terroir wines; wines with history and authenticity. We are happy to see that our local varieties such as Tannat or Petit Manseng are gaining more and more interest.

2 Another new trend is the growing concern for sustainable development and fair trade - this is truly linked to our values as a co-op.
