Two Good, 2 Bad for 2013, Hopes and Fears for 2014: Laurie Webster, Las Bodegas

Published:  26 December, 2013

Laurie Webster, of Argentinian wine importer, Las Bodegas, is the latest member of the trade to give their good and bad memories of 2013 and their hopes and fears for 2014.

2013

2 Good

  • Discovering the dare-devil wines of Matias Michelini and selling most of the first shipment before it arrived in the UK.
  • Partick Thistle rising like a knobbly-kneed pheonix into the SPL and playing beautiful football.

 2 Bad

  • Miserably inevitable duty rise.
  • The shipping times from Argentina are still painful at times.

 2014

Hopes

  • John Ratcliffe joining Accolade and helping to put some perspective back into the industry.
  • More exciting activity amongst independent retailers, incorporating good deli counters, good coffee and generally keeping us all alive.

Fears

  • Miserably inevitable duty rise.
  • Partick Thistle sinking like the proverbial stone into the Scottish 1st division.
