Glenfiddich Malt Mastermind 2013 finalists announced

Published:  22 October, 2013

The number of finalists competing for the Glenfiddich Malt Mastermind 2013 title has been increased from six to seven, due to the high calibre of the candidates.

Bartenders, from across the country will compete to impress the judges with their twist on the classic Rob Roy whisky cocktail and a signature serve of their own using either Glenfiddich 12, 15 or 18 Year Old Single Malt. Finalists will battle it out at the Glenfiddich distillery in Dufftown on October 28 and the winner will be announced on October 29.

The judging panel includes: new addition master blender for William Grant & Sons, Brian Kinsman, whisky expert Mark Thomson and last year's winner, Lee Potter Cavanagh.

Glenfiddich brand ambassador Jamie Milne said: "Every year we struggle to whittle the candidates down, but this time it was impossible to choose six finalists. The knowledge, passion and creativity displayed in their applications were of the highest calibre I've seen in four years, and we're excited to be able to take seven fantastic bartenders to Scotland for the final."

He added: "Having Brian Kinsman on board is another exciting development. Brian is extremely well respected within the industry, and is someone who will inspire our finalists to bring their enthusiasm for whisky to life in some unique serves."

The 2013 winner of the title will be awarded £1,000 and the Malt Mastermind trophy, plus a weekend stay in Dufftown including a VIP distillery experience.

The finalists are:

Gareth Evans - Social Eating House, London

Marcis Dzelzainis - Satan's Whiskers, London

Marco Abreu - Aqua Shard, London
