La Hechicera rum launches bartender competition

Published:  30 September, 2013

La Hechicera, an aged rum from Colombia, is launching a competition called Wanderlust Columbia, which will give two bartenders from the UK the chance to live and work in the capital of Colombia, with accommodation and a month's salary.

Winners will receive a bespoke programme hosted by the Riascos family, who are behind the only privately owned estate in Columbia, allowing them to work in Bogotá's premium bars and belnd their rum with the master blender of La Hechicera.

Entrants must register via the Ron La Hechicera Facebook page by October 31, 2013. The details of the competition will then be revealed and judging will take place in February 2014.

Co-founder Laura Riascos said: "We look forward to welcoming winners to our beautiful home city. The programme we are planning for our winners will be hugely exciting and we hope they find it memorable for years to come."

The Riascos family have produced rums in Barranquilla, Colombia, for over two decades. La Hechicera is traditionally "unpolished" rum, retaining the qualities of the oak barrels it is aged in. La Hechicera is a blend of matured rums, aged between 12 and 21 years in American white oak casks, applying its own version of the solera method in the ageing process.
