Glenn Caton is to leave his position as managing director of Laithwaite's Wine to join Mondel?z, owner of confectionery giant Cadbury's.

Laithwaite's owner, Direct Wines, has confirmed to Harpers that Caton will leave the company at the end of July. Mond?lez is set to make an announcement about the role that Caton is to take on in early August.

Simon McMurtrie, group chief executive of Direct Wines, told Harpers.co.uk: "We are very sorry to see him move on as he has brought strong leadership to our UK business during the past two years. He played a pivotal role in securing our sponsorship of English cricket and also Classic FM.

"Mike Brennan, until now managing director of our European and India businesses, has been appointed interim managing director for the next six months while we recruit a new UK managing director."

Caton joined Laithwaite's in April 2011 following senior roles at E&J Gallo Winery, Procter & Gamble and Hiscox Insurance. At Gallo he moved through the marketing division to become marketing director for Europe.
