Inverness bartender wins rum cocktail competition

Published:  21 June, 2013

Robb Kerr from Dows Bar in Inverness has won the first OVD Discover the Dark Side of Rum Cocktail Competition after 11 of Scotland's top bartenders got together to battle it out in Dufftown.

Kerr secured a place in the grand final after winning its North of Scotland heat, and impressed the judges on the day with his unique Guyana Girl cocktail, which combined the First Drinks-distributed OVD dark rum with Malibu, blackcurrant cordial, pineapple juice, lime and Kerr's homemade banana flavoured tobacco and molasses syrup, aiming to capture the essence of the rum's Caribbean roots.

The judging panel comprised drinks experts Paul Curry (OVD), Gerry Mellor (First Drinks Brands), Chris Langan (Barnomadics) and guest judge Gillian McKenzie (editor of Scottish Licensed Trade News).
