Bollinger head winemaker heads to Germany

Published:  10 June, 2013

Former Bollinger head winemaker Mathieu Kauffmann has been recruited by Reichsrat von Buhl in Germany in time to direct the 2013 harvest.

Kauffmann had been chef du cave at Bollinger for 12 years before he was approached by the winery, which is owned by German investor Achim Niederberger.

Reichsrat von Buhl is located in the Palatinate, has been operating as a family-owned wine estate for more than 150 years and is considered one of the most prestigious in Germany.

The 60ha estate has focused on organic winemaking since 2008 and grows mainly Riesling, with smaller harvests of Pinot Noir, Scheurebe, Rieslaner and Sauvignon Blanc.
