Cobevco fills its 1.5 billionth bottle

Cobevco, the bottling arm of Quinn Glass, has passed the 1.5 billion bottles landmark after six years in operation.

Cobevco, the bottling arm of Quinn Glass, has passed the 1.5 billion bottles landmark after six years in operation.

The Cheshire-based plant, whose customers include Australian Vintage, E&J Gallo and PLB, has filled more than 1.5 billion bottles of wine, beer, cider and soft drinks at its 21,600 site since 2006, exceeding the 200 million bottles a year target set by management when it began operations.

"As the beverage market becomes increasingly globalised and overheads within the supply chain escalate, producers are increasingly turning to us to help them reduce their carbon footprint, improve the responsiveness of their supply chain and smooth out consistency in wine quality for fast moving products.

"As more and more producers realise the benefits of bulk filling, our outputs are set to increase even further," said sales and marketing manager Gillian Walters.

Cobevco now plans to double its output volumes of wine and carbonated beverages by 2014 by forging closer links with the Australian and Chilean wine industries.

From May it will be able to fill bag-in-box packaging, following a £2m investment in new machinery and in January it hired Justin Knock MW as its official winemaking consultant.
